Procedures Used For Spruce Pine Batch Cullet

5/27/10    Melted 50lb chips at 2195F. Charged in hone hour, refined at 2195F for six hours. Squeezed overnight at 1975F. Results yielded a good glass ready for working at 7:00AM the following day.  I prepared two hagy seals.

5/28/10     The seals were analyzed as were five conventional cane tests. The results of both tests indicated that the new clear was approximately .3 ten thousandths lower in expansion that an older clear sample of Spruce Pine which I kept in file in the studio. This deviation is in my opinion inconsequential and well within the expected deviation that might occur from melt to melt when considering potential compatibility issues with the new cullet

5/29/10      melted 50lbs of chips at 2140F in a one hour period and took them up to 2175F and held there for five hours. The melt was not as fined out the next morning as the previous melt but it squeezed in about two hours quite well.
